Bill : 한국의 가장 큰 명절은 언제예요?

Which is the biggest Korean traditional holiday?
   
Cheolsu : 설과 추석이에요. 설은 음력 1월 1일이고 추석은 음력 8월 15일이에요.
[Seolgwa chuseogieyo. Seoreun eumnyeok irwol iril-igo chuseogeun eumnyeok parwol siboil-ieyo.]
It's New Years and Chuseok. New Year’s is on the first day of January on the Chinese lunar calendar, and Chuseok is on August 15th of the Chinese lunar calendar.
   
Bill : 설에는 무얼 하죠?
[Seoreneun mueol hajyo?]
What do you do for New Years?
   
Cheolsu : 조상들께 차례를 지내고, 어른들께 세배를 드려요.
[Josangdeulkke charyereul jinaego, eoreundeulkke sebaereul deuryeoyo.]
We hold a memorial service for our ancestors and bow to the elderly family members.
   
Bill : 설날에 먹는 특별한 음식이 있나요?
[Seollare meongneun teukbyeolhan eumsigi innayo?]
Are there any traditional dishes Koreans eat on New Year’s day? 
   
Cheolsu : 네. 집집마다 떡국을 먹어요.
[Ne, jipjjimmada tteokkugeul meogeoyo.]
Yes. Every household prepares and eats Tteokguk
   
Bill : 추석은 어떤 명절이에요?
[Chuseogeun eotteon myeongjeol-ieyo?]
What kind of holiday is Chuseok?
   
Cheolsu : 서양의 추수감사절과 비슷해요. 햇곡식으로 만든 음식과 햇과일로 차례를 지내요.
[Seoyang-ui chusugamsajeolgwa biseutaeyo. Haetgokssigeuro mandeun eumsikkwa haetkkwaillo charyereul jinaeyo.]
It's close to the American Thanksgiving. We do a special memorial service for our ancestors with new grains and fruit.
   
Bill : 송편은 뭐예요?
[Songpyeoneun mwoyeyo?]
What is Songpyeon?
   
Cheolsu : 추석에 빚어 먹는 반달 모양의 떡이에요.
[Chuseoge bijeo meongneun bandanl moyang-ui tteogieyo.]
It's a half-moon-shaped rice cake Koreans eat over Chuseok.

[Saehae bong mani badeuseyo.]
